C went to see the pediatrician on Friday. He needed a wellness checkup before starting kindergarten. C is 43 inches tall and weighs 37 pounds. He is in the 10th percentile for height and in the 5th percentile for weight.

The doctor also checked his hearing and eye sight. Hearing in both ears was fine. His eyesight is fine as well at 20/25.

C didn’t need any shots, as he is up to date. However, he did get his finger pricked. All blood work was normal, as was his urinalysis.

Some medicine that C takes is suppressing his appetite too much. In March, he was in the 10th percentile for height AND weight. So, I got him a milk shake as we left the doctor’s office… Gotta get more calories in the little fella… (or maybe I can share some of my extra weight with him through osmosis and snuggling?)

C came to me while I was in the kitchen. He had been sitting on the couch watching “The Incredibles” and pulled his tooth out. YEAH!!!!!!!

This is the 2nd tooth C has lost. It is on the bottom next to the other one he lost about a month or so ago.

C has already retrieved his tooth pillow and has put his tooth in it for the tooth fairy to claim tonight. The tooth fairy brings him a gold Sacagewea $1 coin for each lost tooth. (Good thing I got several of them at the bank when I was anticipating the first tooth coming out!)

As soon as the tooth came out, C said, “I want a new toy!” I told him that he only got a toy for the first tooth coming out and for any other teeth he gets the gold dollar coin. C was fine with this, and we called Daddy to tell him about this new event.

While C was talking to Daddy B, C said, “Now that I’ve got my tooth out, I want some candy!”

Older people wouldn’t find this as funny as we did – losing teeth and wanting more candy…Â Should I get the dentist to talk to C about the effects of candy on teeth?!

B said: “Okay, this makes ear infection, bronchitis and pink eye in the house right now. Correct?”

I replied: “You forgot that I stubbed my big toe last night on a toy.” (also, B forgot about my sinus infection as well… who’s counting anyway?)

B: “Well, at least all the bases are covered.”

(I just organized all the medicines on the kitchen counter – 3 for me in addition to my daily medications, 3 for J, 2 for C. Plus the children’s tylenol, cough drops, and sore throat spray. It’s bad in the house when we each have our own tupperware containers of medicines! – at this point it is almost laughable if the laughing didn’t put me into a coughing frenzy!)

We met my mom at the health department and C, J and I got our flu shots this morning. B, it’s your turn!

My mom got her shot first and then I got mine. I was trying to coax the boys into getting their shots willingly so I offered them a sucker once we got home. Both boys pointed at the other and said that the other one was going first!

I ended up holding J and then my mom held C as they got their shots. This was the first time for them to get a shot in their arms as opposed to their legs.

I am going to take some benadryl now – my arm at the injection site keeps itching and I know if I keep rubbing it, it will start hurting – like now! The nurse told me that I could give the boys tylenol to help them today.

J is eating his McDonald’s pancakes and sausage, with syrup. He has already finished his sucker. C will get his sucker and pancakes with sausage and syrup when he gets home from going with Nana to get her hair cut. I am going to post this and then get me some Raisin Bran for breakfast.

I hope you have a good day, my readers!

Tonight at AWANA, C lost his first tooth. His grown up tooth has started to grow in behind his baby tooth, on the tongue side of his mouth. I mentioned to C’s main teacher at AWANA, Ms. Kari that the tooth was loose and she asked to see it. After a brief discussion with C, she was allowed to pop it out. C was thrilled and asked for the tooth to show anybody and everybody at church that would look at it! Thanks Kari!!

I had previously promised C that when the tooth came out, I would take him to Target to get a toy garbage truck like the one that Ryan, another child, brought on the Sunday School class retreat. C got a blue garbage truck that has a lift in the front and a working garbage container behind it. (Tonka Mighty Motorized Garbage Truck)

C has already put his tooth in his little tooth pillow and placed the little pillow under his real pillow on his bed for the tooth fairy to visit tonight. I’m glad I have already been to the bank to get the gold dollar coins! Sometime after he is asleep, B or I will trade the tooth for a gold dollar. SHHHHHH – It’s a secret!!!

Right now C thinks I am emailing the tooth fairy. C just asked me, “Are you emailing the tooth fairy?” I told him that I was. C responded with “alright!”

I told C that I would email the tooth fairy when he lost his tooth and that she would come after he is asleep. C is insistent that he is going to stay awake to see the tooth fairy. Hopefully it won’t be as long a night as I expect. He is pretty wired at the moment. I’m so happy for him! This is a huge milestone! Mommy is very proud of you, C!

I am getting better. B told me to stay home from church this morning. No doubt due to the icky sound of my cough and the fact that I get winded easily and have to rest to catch my breath. However, the cough is productive and I am feeling better. I think my fever finally broke Friday afternoon. My medicines are making me drowsy, but as long as they are helping me get better, I will continue to take them.

B is fighting a cold as well. I don’t think it is the same one that I have had. His seems to be more allergy related from what I can tell, however, he might disagree. His cough sounds dry, but not the “barking” kind. He is very susceptible to a cough during the change of seasons. Around 2.30 this morning B was in the living room watching television and I was trying to get to sleep. His cough was bothering me so I got up out of bed and found some prescription cough pills of his from last time he was sick and brought them to him along with some Halls cough drops.

This morning B asked me what kind of Halls I brought him and I told him I thought they were “tropical or something like that. I liked them.” B replied that they were the nastiest cough drops he had ever tasted. Well then B – go to the doctor and find something that works or tastes better! In the middle of the night I don’t care what they taste like as long as the kids aren’t awakened unnecessarily.

I hope B can get some rest and get to feeling better this evening while the kids and I are at church for choir. Even though I don’t feel great, I still need to teach my 3 year old choir. I would try to get a substitute, but I have already unsuccessfully tried to get a substitute for one of the ladies that I teach with whom will be out tonight. Another teacher will be late. The kids need me and I know that they need consistency at this age.

Also, FYI – C still hasn’t lost his bottom tooth that is loose. Every time I look at C’s mouth, that tooth is at a different angle. I can’t believe it has hung on this long being loose. A couple of weeks ago we bought C a little tooth pillow with a pouch for putting his lost teeth into for the tooth fairy. I’ll keep you posted when he loses the tooth.

On the retreat this weekend, I didn’t feel very good. I slept most of the way there and a good part of the way home. I only sleep in the car when I’m sick. My fever at the doctor’s office this morning confirmed this fact. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis. I’ve got enough medicines and samples to fill a small pharmacy including medicine to use in J’s nebulizer to help me breathe. My pulse oxygen was down and my heart rate was up – another indicator of my respiratory distress.

I will be on antibiotic for 10 days in addition to increased asthma medicines, decongestants, mucus thinner, and tylenol. Boys, please play quietly together for awhile and let Mommy get better fast!

I have a summer cold. It’s been awhile since I was sick. Usually it is the boys that come down with something and I keep washing my hands and praying, “Please, don’t let me get this!”

This time, I am the instigator of the virus in the house. I haven’t been around any sick people that I am aware of, don’t know where this came from. Yesterday was my worst day. I couldn’t find any medicine to open up my sinuses. And believe me, I tried a lot. I could hear B’s voice in my head, “You know you should go to the doctor instead of self medicating. These over the counter medicines should probably not be mixed…” But I didn’t want to bother with the doctor. She couldn’t do anything. Antibiotics don’t work on viruses and most colds are indeed viruses and go away in 10-14 days. I’ve heard it enough from taking the boys to the doctor with a cold.

Today, I am coming out of the fog. I had a little energy and abused it to the fullest. C has fresh bed sheets and so do B and I. The kitchen is clean and toys are put away. Now, I will sit for the remainder of the evening.

The past two days, like I said, I haven’t had any sinus relief. Total blockage. Only could breathe through my mouth. When B got home last night, he brought dinner with him and gave me mine and sent me to bed to eat and rest. THANK YOU, B!!! At bedtime, I was ready to help get C and J in bed. B took care of C and I took care of J.

I was rocking J to get him sleepy and he wrapped his arms around my neck holding on tightly saying, “I’ll keep you and make you feel better.” I liked the sentiment, but having his arms so tight around my neck, combined with the sinus pressure and I started to have a panic attack that I couldn’t breathe (I suffer from claustrophobia. This didn’t help the situation at all!). I gently loosened his arms and breathed slowly. I got really scared, but was able to calm myself and still keep J content. Rocking was good for both of us.

This evening, B got home from work relatively early and took the boys to the park and out to eat. This gave me a break and by these past several days I am reminded of why I love B so much. I understand how tired he is by the end of the day, but he sacrificed his precious time at home by choosing to help me get better. Plus the boys love going to the park (fresh air will be good for their lungs. I don’t want them getting sick!) and spending time with Daddy.

Thank you, B, for loving me so unconditionally and unselfishly and helping to keep this house running smoothly while I am under the weather.

C and J went to the doctor today for their 5 year and 3 year respective checkups. They are two perfectly healthy little boys. Here is their information – it’s hard to believe that they are 22 months apart in age considering how closely their sizes are:

C weighs 35 lbs. and J weighs 33 lbs.

C is 41 inches tall and J is 37.25 inches tall.

C is in the 10th percentile for height and weight and J is in the 25th percentile for height and weight.

C also had his hearing and sight tested today. He did well in both eyes. The nurse had a little hand held device that she used to test C’s hearing. She pressed a button to start the test and the hand held machine did beep noises in C’s ears. C thought it was funny having to say “beep” each time after hearing a beep with the hearing machine. Both ears were fine.

Both boys had blood work today and their iron levels are fine. Both boys were to have urinalysis done today as well and C did fine providing a sample. His sugar level is normal.

J refused to provide a urine sample – even after offers of a sucker, gum, toy tractor, and a happy meal for lunch. I made up a song and tried singing, “pee pee come out.” This didn’t work either. I tried getting J to provide a urine sample standing up, sitting down, in the examination room, in the bathroom, in the hallway and even sitting on the examination table. Nothing worked. We left there with J screaming that he wanted a sucker. Hopefully J won’t do like C did a couple of years ago and bring me a sample in a little play cup that goes to their play kitchen. Samples are needed for the doctor – not mommy.

After the doctor’s visit, C chose tacos for lunch. He ate 3 crunchy tacos and J ate 1/2 of 1. At this rate, C will continue to be bigger than J! But with both boys their eating comes sporadically. They eat some at each meal, but only eat everything that is on their plates when they are about to go through a growth spurt. I can watch their eating cycles and literally watch them grow taller! With C it is a little more obvious. He will get a belly on him and a week later he is at least an inch taller and the belly is gone.

Time has flown by and I still am amazed that C is 5 and J is 3. I’m going to miss having a baby in the house, but am enjoying watching them grow up, too.

Blue Burns, a female betta fish of unknown age, has died of apparently natural causes following a brief period of lethargy. She was found by the mistress of the house on the evening of June 8, 2006 when D went to feed Blue. Blue is survived by Tara, B, D, C and J.

She was a good fish, always ready to watch her family from her tank that sat on the kitchen bar. Blue was a constant source of entertainment for the family cat, Tara, who liked to watch Blue take her daily swim.

Blue’s earthly body was buried at sea by way of a flush down the commode in a whirlwind of water. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelter.
