Orange Beach, AL 7/12-15/2009 Part 6

Pop “hid” a toy roller in the beach for J to find, as J buried his toy roller in the sand last year and had to go home without it, as we couldn’t find it. I hope another kid did find it and was shocked! J certainly was shocked to find “his” toy roller this year!
First J started out digging in the sand with a yellow toy shovel. Then as he got closer to the roller, and got more excited, he started digging with both hands. The last picture is of his radiant face.

Here are pictures of my mom enjoying the waves…

Orange Beach, AL 7/12-15/2009 – Part 5

Monday morning we went to the beach for awhile and then to the park. We didn’t stay at the park but about 30 minutes. It was hot as heck, and storms were about to roll through the area. The kids did enjoy the tire swing and getting to run around a bit.

Monday evening after my parents got to the beach and it got dark, we were supposed to go crabbing. Unfortunately, the rain was still strong so we didn’t get to. Luckily the rain didn’t last into the next day and the boys were very excited to get to go crabbing. Got to admit that the sight of the rain clouds rolling in was really neat!

The sunset on Tuesday evening was nothing short of gorgeous!

This is a picture of a shell that J told me that I needed to take a picture of.

Here are some pictures of the boys, B, me, and Nana looking for crabs on the beach. Of course, I had to get my annual picture of my feet in the ocean/Gulf of Mexico. J’s favorite part of crabbing was getting to have a big stick (net was a bonus). C’s favorite part of crabbing was getting his very own flashlight.

These are the dead shrimp and dead crab that we found on the beach. Last year we saw a live baby crab running along the beach. We were not so lucky (neither were the animals) this year. It was fun nevertheless.

Tuesday morning arrived very early. B got up with the kids around 7 and took them to the Air Force Base in Pensacola, FL to watch the Blue Angels practice. B got some great shots, but said it was HOT and they forgot to bring water with them. (That Tuesday morning I went shopping with my parents – got a really pretty Coach blue patchwork purse. YEAH for me!)

This picture was especially cool to me, because it shows the Angel breaking the sound barrier. Ya Gotta have a really fast camera to take this kind of shot! Good job, B!

I liked this shot because there was at least 1 airplane upside down flying in such close proximity to the other planes.

Following the Blue Angel’s practice, the boys had to make their annual pilgrimage to the Air Force Museum.

It was approaching lunchtime and I was still shopping with my parents.  B took the boys to lunch and said that they were on their best behavior. (I guess there is hope for them in kindergarten/1st grade!)

The next morning/Wednesday (My Dad’s birthday) we hit the beach. J was all about the sand and water. Last year he was frighted of the water and refused almost to go in it. This year we had a hard time keeping a hold on him, or even line of sight on him! He really enjoyed me going out into the water with him and with the water being almost over my head, we would “jump” together to ride the waves. AWESOME! We did get knocked down a few times, but I never let go of J. (As an aside – every time we got near the ocean, J would remind me to not wear my glasses in the water. Smart kid remembering how the wave last year stole them from me.)
After playing for awile, B brought down to the beach a kite in the form of a tie-fighter from Star Wars. The kite made it off the ground for about 20 feet and then pummeled the beach. I think the kite was a poor form/design. After all, my dad and B were working hard to get it in the air and keep it there!

As the kite was a bust, we had a little time and left the boys with my parents to go get a birthday cake for my dad – ooh – yummy afternoon snack!
Here are some pictures that B took of me and the boys at breakfast on Monday morning…

Sunday evening when we arrived at the hotel and got checked it, it was getting a little too late to go to the beach. Therefore we changed into our swim suits and hit the hotel pool. The boys had a blast and didn’t get called out of the pool until 9 pm. We finally made it to bed around 10:15. Wow – What a long, fun day! The kids could not have traveled better. They didn’t argue, whine or disobey basic car rules. IT WAS AWESOME!!! We will seriously consider another trip with the boys after this one being so easy.

B and I and the kids left for Orange Beach, AL on Sunday morning, July 12. My parents left the following Monday morning to meet up with us. Thanks Mom and Dad for a great trip. It was awesome getting to celebrate Daddy’s birthday at the beach! (Sorry I didn’t get a picture of the cake/cupcakes – it will have to remain part of our memories. And of how Mom and Dad were at the beach/pool with the boys while B and I sneaked off to a grocery store for the cake and candles. Oh, how the boys loved the icing! Also, it was great that there was a little restaurant in the hotel off the pool where we were able to get forks and knives to cut the cake. Thanks Perdido Beach Resort!)
Here are the boys traveleing to the beach… When J’s wasn’t sleeping, he was watching his DVD player with HIS choice of movie. C had a DVD player as well where HE could choose what he wanted to watch. Saved a lot of arguing “I don’t wanna watch that! I wanna watch this (input movie of non-compromise). However, C was quite content to play Nintendo DS games all the way to the beach. Every now and then I loaned my DS to J, as he is 5 years old and learning all the buttons and is reading almost as well as C.
