2.26.08 catch-up

I just got home from taking J to the doctor.  He is still fighting a really icky ear infection (just one ear, not both fortunately!).  J is going to be taking a different type of antibiotic this time.  Also, the doctor ordered a round of steroids and for J to use the nebulizer (breathing treatment) 4 times a day for the next few days as J has a bad cold as well and is aggravated by his asthma…  Oh dear!  The breathing treatments WIRE J and the steroids have been known to make J MEAN…  We’re going to have fun, fun, fun this weekend…  It will all be worth it if we can get J well.  If these antibiotics don’t work, we will be taking J to an ENT per the pediatrician.

Last night J was up most of the night with his ear hurting.  He kept coming in our room wanting me or B to rock him or give him warm washcloths to put on his hurting ear.  Poor fella (and poor Daddy going to work today after not much sleep!).  Today I will give J an early rest time and maybe the extra rest will help him heal quicker.  Can’t hurt!

B and I picked out our hardwood over the weekend and have samples here of the new carpet.  Hardwood will be put in the living room, dining room and hallway.  New carpet will be in our room and the boys’ rooms.  Glad to have those decisions behind us.  The people have come here to take all the measurements for the installations.  Once we decide on a final color of the carpet, we will be ready to have it put in.  The company runs on a couple of week delay between order and installation, so it should be put in our house by the end of March.  Hurray!!!

We have also decided on a final color for the living room and dining room (and I’ll probably repaint the hallway as well – to match the living room).  I need to get to Home Depot soon (probably this afternoon when J and I go out to get his medicine at Walgreens when it is ready) to pick up the paint so I can get started painting this weekend.  We wanted to have the painting done before the hardwood went in.  No point in risking the hardwood getting messed up by splatters or potential spills.  If paint gets on the current living room, dining room, or hallway carpet – no worries.

————————-

I’ve signed C up for t-ball again.  He has looked forward to the season starting.  He will be playing for First Baptist here in town again.  (J wasn’t interested in playing – he just likes playing on the playground while C is on the field.  That’s fine.  He is not lacking in getting exercise.  The fella never sits still…)

————————–

I can’t wait for the weather to warm up!  We will be outside in the front yard lots again this year with J enjoying his new scooter he got for Christmas and C has been asking when the weather will warm up so he can ride his bike again (I just hope he easily remembers how to ride it without the training wheels.  Winter can be long for a 6 year old!).

I also didn’t mention that last week J took off his training wheels on his bicycle.  I have tried and tried to avoid/put this off until he turns 5 next month, but… J is a very determined little boy.  The weather needs to get warmer so J can practice riding his bike sans training wheels.  Then me riding with the boys in the neighborhood will be more fun.  C goes REALLY FAST without the training wheels and I’m sure J will as well.  Fun, Fun, Fun!  I love riding my bike – I even was able to enjoy the nice weather a week ago when Margaret hosted Bunco.  I rode my bike to her house and it was an awesome teaser of great days to come.

Spring, I welcome your arrival!  (Winter, what can I say… GO AWAY!)

The Eyes of God

J at Bedtime: “Did you know God looks down on me at the grocery store? He watches the WHOLE TOWN at the same time! Wow!”

<pause>

“I wonder how many eyes God has”

<longer pause>

“I bet God has 100 eyes. Yep, he has 100 eyes.”

Bathroom Carpet – not ever again!

Posted February 17th, 2009 by Mom | Comments (1)

I have mentioned before that the builders or homeowners that put carpet in bathrooms are completely nuts/sadists.

Our builder put tile at the bathtub and around the commode, but carpet at the sink and in the linen closet.  This is especially not good with two little boys brushing their teeth with blue toothpaste…

Now that we are getting ready to put hardwood in the living room, dining room and hallways and new carpet in the bedrooms, I wanted to have the bathroom carpet removed and replaced with tile that matched our foyer and kitchen (and have the initial tile removed and replaced as well, so the entire bathroom floor looked nice).  I thought it would be better to put the tile in first, so there was no risk to harming the hardwood with mastic or grout…  Good idea to me!

Mission is now accomplished.  The kids’ bathroom – and linen closet -  has tile.  YEAH!!!!!!!  Now we just need to keep the grout clean for a week so it can cure and then I can seal it.

I will always have ill feelings towards builders who choose to put carpet in bathrooms, but I am glad that I won’t have to deal with it anymore – ever.  That is if B stays true to his initial opinion that he had when we purchased this house:  “We are never moving again.  You can carry me out of this house in a pine box.”

We have an awesome guy that has done quite a bit of work for us here.  Thanks Wes!!!  (To my dear friends, if you want his information, let me know.  He won’t disappoint you!)

Not Me!

C has had a problem with language lately: not curse words, but using words like ‘garbagehead’ and poopyface inappropriately. (Is there ever an appropriate time to say poopyface?)

Dialog when I got home tonight:

C: “Dad, I didn’t say any bad words today, like garbage, diaper, or poopy!”

Dad: Good Job C! Now, you know that words like ‘garbage’ aren’t bad but you can use them in a bad way, right?

C: Yes, like saying, “garbagehead” is bad…

Dad: … and saying you will carry out the garbage is a good way to use it!

C: No, I would just say momma would do that… !

C Pictures

I’ve had quite a few pictures of J up on the blog lately and wanted to even it up a bit by adding some pictures of C…

C’s Christmas party at school:

And a favorite of mine… a pouting C that wasn’t ready to quit playing with Daddy, although it had started to rain…

King Quacker

A long time ago, Grandma B gave the boys duck robe/towels to have/use in their bathroom.

C is called “Darth Ducky” when he wears his. J is called “King Quacker.”

Here is J wearing his after a bath and he was obviously not happy about having his picture taken… total LOL!!!
