Mother’s Day, 2008
Early this morning C woke me up with wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day and J wished me a Happy Valentine’s Day. They both climbed in bed with me and J even offered me some of his stuffed animals, a sign of true love. J also managed to bring into my bedroom his largest teddy bear that if it could stand up would be life-size. It is still on my bed and I need to go put it back in J’s room before bedtime.
The boys cooked me breakfast (Eggo waffles and bacon) and brought it to me in bed this morning with a load of Mother’s Day gifts. Earlier, while B was finishing up cooking the breakfast, J came back in the bedroom and hopped up on the bed. He informed me that I was getting a scrambled egg and “chocolate balls.” (B later told me that J told him specifically how to cook a scrambled egg - complete with the adorable hand motions that J uses- and B would have followed instructions if there had been more time before church to spend on breakfast.) The chocolate balls turned out to be Lindor chocolates in chocolate/peanut butter. Yummy! I also received some clear stamps. In the last bag I pulled out a bottle of pink nail polish. The boys told me it was red. I soon discovered that there was another bottle of nail polish in the bag. What color? Red, of course. They knew what they picked out!
The boys had forgotten to bring me anything to drink with my lovely breakfast, so I asked J to get me a glass of water. J ran to get the water. He came back to my room with a glass of water and walked halfway to me. He stopped and asked, “Mommy, Were the glasses in the dishwasher clean?” I smiled and replied that they were. He then smiled again and sat the glass down on my nightstand. Sweet boy, I’m glad to know that I am worth a clean glass!
After all this activity, we had to hurry to get ready for church. B got the kids ready while I got myself ready. Then since B had taken care of the boys and I was ready, C, J and I went on ahead to church and B met me there for childcare.
After church, I took a nap while the boys played and then visited with my parents while the boys napped. I even got to go to Wal-mart sans kids this afternoon! Now, that is a true treat in and of itself!!!
While I was at Wal-Mart, I got what I could remember of my list. As I was checking out, I commented to the checkout lady that “you know you are a mom when you purchase band-aids, baby food, and carpet cleaner.” We both got a chuckle out of it.
I still purchase a limited amount of baby food - vanilla custard and jar rice cereal. J likes the vanilla custard and C likes the rice cereal. I mix the baby food with a cup of milk to make a healthy milkshake. C takes medicine that is suppressing his appetite. An occasional “milky,” as the milkshakes have been called since birth, gives C some fluids and additional nutrients. I don’t substitute meals with milkies, but I do allow them when I notice that C is only eating minimal amounts of his meals. Poor fella is so skinny. Not from the lack of food offered, just from all his activities, picky eating habits, and the medicine.
This afternoon when I got home from Wal-mart, the boys were up from their rests. B was about to head to the backyard to put a screen on one window of their fort. J has started climbing out of the window and getting stuck on top of the climbing bars. Thanks B for putting the screen up. Can the kids disassemble it?! B mentioned to me, as he was heading out back, “Flowers will only get a husband so far, Contributing to the safety of your children… priceless!”
While B worked on the fort with C’s assistance, J and I played with new chalk on the front sidewalk. J and I both noted last time that we drew with the sidewalk chalk that it was getting very limited in colors and just had small pieces. Many of the good colors had already been used up. Now we have a new set of sidewalk chalk. J loves it when I play wooden trains with him and draw with him with the sidewalk chalk. C’s special time with me is when we sit and play with Star Wars legos. I am getting better at making impromptu space ships. B has taught me a few reinforcement tricks to keep the legos from coming apart easily. The kids are growing up so fast!
The boys have had baths, and it is almost bedtime. I can honestly say, I have had a good Mother’s Day!
