Happy Early Birthday to me! (plus etc.)
This past Saturday evening, my parents and my Great Aunt came over to celebrate my birthday. Since my birthday is actually May 7, it was easier to celebrate it now, instead of conflicting or combining my birthday with the celebrations of Mother’s Day, C’s birthday and my M-i-l’s birthday.
We knew that C and J would be happier playing here instead of at my parent’s house, so my mom came over a little early and cooked dinner for me - complete with setting the table! We had chicken a la king, rice, peach halves with cottage cheese, sister shubert rolls and english peas. For dessert my mom made (my absolute favorite cake!) lemon pound cake with a sugar glaze. She also had chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream available. It was a delicious meal - extra delicious since I didn’t have to cook it!
B gave me a beautiful iron decoration to put on the wall over our bed. I have been looking for something similar to no avail. He did a great job finding what I was looking for. I can’t wait to see it in place!! He also gave me a new odometer for my bicycle and a metal paper cutter. My Aunt gave me a restaurant gift card that I will immensely enjoy. The restaurant has a bakery and I love their blueberry muffins for weekend breakfasts (so do the boys!). C and J gave me a ceramic black and white cat to add to my collection - thanks boys! My mom and dad gave me the new Mary Higgins Clark book, a skirt and blouse and new brown shoes, and a Camphor glass three legged bowl (Camphor glass is a cloudy white glass that has been blown or pressed. It was made by many factories in the Midwest during the mid-nineteenth century.) that matches a 3 legged plate that I already have and love to use. This set will be a beautiful addition to my dinner table. Thanks Mom and Dad!!
After dinner, my mom even cleaned up the kitchen! What a great mom I do have to make such a special evening for me!!! Thanks, Pop, also for sharing Nana with me for the afternoon while she prepared the meal!
The evening had to end rather early since the boys needed to get to bed to be ready for church in the morning. I had to be at church at 7.30 on Sunday morning to meet up with my handbell choir so we could practice a little while that morning before we played in both worship services (I still want to call it “Big church” even after all these years!). Both times we played sounded really good. I play the big base bells (c4-f#4). I use the mallets or pluck the clapper depending on what is called for in the sheet music. I played in high school and love it. I have been with this handbell choir since January of last year.
What a great weekend! Happy birthday to me!
