I am back in the land of the living. I have had pneumonia that has had me down for the count. I went to the doctor 3 weeks ago with bronchitis and finally went back on Wednesday and she did a chest x-ray. Suffice as to say, I received stronger antibiotics, stronger inhaled steriods and really good cough medicine, in addition to more medicine for our at-home nebulizer (breathing machine) that we purchased last winter for J. Unfortunately, I passed on the asthma gene to him. Hopefully C will not ever have any breathing problems.
As a “catch-up” blog… Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. We didn’t travel since the boys had colds and I was under the weather as well. We went to my parents for Thanksgiving lunch (thanks mom for the cornbread dressing and sweet potato pie!) and then B took the boys home for rest time and I visited with my parents a bit longer.
We got the Christmas tree up - see another blog for those details - and the boys helped me get the outside lights up on Wednesday afternoon (needless to say, I needed a breathing treatment after that exertion) and they are really pretty. J loves to lay in his bed at night and look out his window at the pretty lights. Oh how he loves the lights at Christmastime!
C and J had their Christmas program at church this evening. Since I am one of J’s choir teachers, I sat with the 3 year olds on the stage. C’s class stood behind us in addition to the kindergarten and older kids. Of course, C and J ended up sitting on my knees while we sung the choruses to “Go Tell it on the Mountain” while a 4th grade boy sang the verses. Before the program, one of my fellow teachers told C how nice he looked. C replied with, “I know.” I think it is time I started teaching the kids about how to accept - and give - compliments.
I have mentioned before how much J loves gloves (or detests germs). We are trying to keep him away from the rubber gloves that are in doctor’s offices, but since we have been sick a lot this fall, he has gotten a pair of rubber gloves each time we have been at the doctor. The rubber gloves don’t seem to last long since they easily get torn. However J has really been enjoying my white cotton handbell gloves here lately, but tonight he went to bed wearing my long white satin gloves that go with one of my evening dresses. Quite a sight! Imagine a 3 year old boy wearing a red fireman t-shirt, CARS movie pullup and long white satin gloves. What a picture to one day show his future wife - but I’m not taking that picture!!! (Aside - B just came to me and was quite concerned about J possibly really liking the gloves and told me to put them away tomorrow. I don’t see the problem. J loves dirt, trucks and mud (and satin gloves). I offered to get B a pair of satin boxer shorts since there is nothing wrong with the material.
C spent the night with my parents on Friday night. I think this is his 3rd time to sleep away from home with them. He came home telling me about sleeping in the “funny bed” (their foldout bed). It was a treat for him and perfect timing for me, since I have felt so bad. They went out for pizza Friday night after getting coats for the boys for Christmas presents. C also came home with a “See Rock City” birdhouse that he and Pop put together on Saturday morning. C loved all the time in their garage with the tools and Pop!
I guess that about wraps up the past week. Not much going on here. I’m off to begin the massive cleanup of the kitchen. I ironed clothes yesterday - they have been sitting around since Tuesday - and have the washer and dryer going as well. Things are getting back to normal, whatever that is with a 3 and 5 year old!
BTW I am still getting “the look” from B regarding - in B’s words, “My son does not need a pair of full length satin gloves or silk or whatever they are!”
