Mommy’s heart is breaking

09.17.2007 | 8:57 am | Everyday Life

This morning when I dropped C and J off at preschool, C went into his class fine.  He gave me a couple of hugs and kisses and off he went to play and learn.  J on the other hand… held on to me and cried - loud!  This isn’t like J.  He usually goes into his class without even turning to tell me “bye” or even wave at me.  The teacher had to strongly remove him from my arms with J holding on with a death grip.

I waited down the hall from J’s class for about 5  minutes with him still screaming/crying.  Finally he calmed down and another worker looked in the door and said he was sitting and watching the other kids.  I don’t know what was up this morning.

Last night J wasn’t particularly good in choir.  He didn’t take a nap after church yesterday and I thought that was to blame.  For bedtime we put a pullup on J because he wanted a cup of milk to take to bed (usually he wears underwear and stays dry) and since I had just changed his bed sheets, I didn’t want to take a chance on them getting wet.  J called out around 4 this morning and his bed was wet.  B said that J’s pullup was soaked.  Poor fella - he was sleeping so hard, he didn’t notice that he needed to get up to go potty.

Time will tell if J is going through a stage or if I need to take some special time with just J.  B took J out for an evening while I played with C last week.  I think it is time that B and I switch kids and have some one-on-one time again.  Maybe this will help J.

AWANA/Cubbies Update

09.14.2007 | 7:05 pm | Everyday Life

The boys are loving Cubbies. This past Wednesday we had to leave church before Cubbies because my stomach got sick. I hated to miss handbells and AWANA and having the boys miss Cubbies, but I needed to be home.

In Cubbies, C and J have advanced to their Jumper books. They have already memorized and recited to their teachers 3 memory verses (the teachers have to sign their name that C and J said their verses with 2 or less helps per verse). C and J have learned:

Jesus loves me. (the Cubbies motto)

1 John 4.10 …God …loved us, and sent His son … (the Cubbies key verse)

Romans 3.23 …All have sinned…

Romans 5.8 …While we were …sinners, Christ died for us.

I have put their verses to impromptu musical tunes and C and J kind of “sing” their verses. It helps me to memorize the verses along with them.

In Cubbies, C and J have story time, snack time, craft time, and Scripture reciting time. The kids stay busy and are always smiling when I go to pick them up. There is nothing better in my mind than to hear my boys talk positively about Jesus. J has said, “Jesus is my friend.”

Routine

09.14.2007 | 6:53 pm | Everyday Life

I am loving being in a routine.  Now that school is underway, we aren’t home as much.  Therefore things stay neat.  I leave the house with the beds made, dishwasher running, toys picked up and everything looking wonderful.

On Monday and Wednesday I dropped the kids off at school and went to work.  Today after taking the kids to school I went to Walmart and did our shopping.  Wow!  It was great to hold my list (usually J holds it and draws on it) and mark off items as they went into my cart.  Plus I was able to put groceries that I didn’t want crushed in the baby basket since I didn’t have a little one with me.  The cart was lighter, too, since C wasn’t standing on the front of it.  I even had time to pause and look through my coupons so I made the most out of this shopping experience.

After Walmart I took the bags home and put away the refrigerated and frozen foods and left the other groceries and miscellaneous goods in the bags on the kitchen floor for me to unload and then went to work.  I didn’t like leaving the house/kitchen floor a mess, but knew that my time at work was limited.

Work was fine and then I picked up the kids.  We all took a nap and now B is out with J for some one-on-one time and I am about to go back to sitting with C and watching Spiderman cartoons.

I can get used to this routine!

Froggy Footnote

09.11.2007 | 11:04 pm | Everyday Life

1.) The frog jumped off the fort. To my knowledge, no frog has been intentionally squashed since we explained to the boys that frogs and spiders were not the same :-)

2.) Conversation tonight.
B:
Boys, why did you have the frog in the 2nd floor of the fort?
J: We took him up there to protect him…
C: … and keep him safe. He only had three legs.
B: He probably had 4 before your brother got hold of him.
J: He jumped off. I looked and looked and looked and could not find him. I’m so very sad. I miss him very much.
