Major sorry!

This evening as we were getting ready to leave choir at church, C accidentally smashed J’s fingers in the room door.  Obviously J started hysterically screaming/crying.  His fingers on his right hand had a purple line on them where they got smashed.

C repeated about 10 times that he was very, very sorry.  On the way home J was talking about his hurt fingers and C told J, “I will  never ever do that again!”

Then after we got home, J was telling Daddy about his fingers and C again repeated how sorry he was another 10 or so times.

I think C felt almost as bad as J’s fingers felt!  It is good that C is understanding emotions and cause/effect.  Little guy is growing up!

Health Update 9.30.07

I am getting better. B told me to stay home from church this morning. No doubt due to the icky sound of my cough and the fact that I get winded easily and have to rest to catch my breath. However, the cough is productive and I am feeling better. I think my fever finally broke Friday afternoon. My medicines are making me drowsy, but as long as they are helping me get better, I will continue to take them.

B is fighting a cold as well. I don’t think it is the same one that I have had. His seems to be more allergy related from what I can tell, however, he might disagree. His cough sounds dry, but not the “barking” kind. He is very susceptible to a cough during the change of seasons. Around 2.30 this morning B was in the living room watching television and I was trying to get to sleep. His cough was bothering me so I got up out of bed and found some prescription cough pills of his from last time he was sick and brought them to him along with some Halls cough drops.

This morning B asked me what kind of Halls I brought him and I told him I thought they were “tropical or something like that. I liked them.” B replied that they were the nastiest cough drops he had ever tasted. Well then B – go to the doctor and find something that works or tastes better! In the middle of the night I don’t care what they taste like as long as the kids aren’t awakened unnecessarily.

I hope B can get some rest and get to feeling better this evening while the kids and I are at church for choir. Even though I don’t feel great, I still need to teach my 3 year old choir. I would try to get a substitute, but I have already unsuccessfully tried to get a substitute for one of the ladies that I teach with whom will be out tonight. Another teacher will be late. The kids need me and I know that they need consistency at this age.

Also, FYI – C still hasn’t lost his bottom tooth that is loose.  Every time I look at C’s mouth, that tooth is at a different angle.  I can’t believe it has hung on this long being loose.  A couple of weeks ago we bought C a little tooth pillow with a pouch for putting his lost teeth into for the tooth fairy.  I’ll keep you posted when he loses the tooth.

Yesterday evening I locked myself in my bathroom to take a shower. Now that the boys are getting older, I am actively teaching them about modesty and privacy. J doesn’t care much about either subject. I’m hoping that this is just a 3 year old stage. As for C, a couple of months ago he started requesting that he and J take baths “one at a time.” At this request, I am happy to oblige. With only one boy in the bathtub at a time, there is less likely the chance of a mess.

C is able to start his own bath and washes himself pretty good. I help him with washing his hair just to make sure that it is clean, but he can drain the tub and dry himself off and get himself dressed (C even picked out appropriate “church clothes” for this morning after getting out of his bath!).  The only issue, and it’s not really a problem, is that C is obsessed about being clean. After playing in the wading pool or playing outside, C will come inside and want a bath. I think he could bathe 3 times a day and be quite content. Normally this isn’t a problem, but I get tired of washing towels. Little neat-nick!

Anyway, I digress. Back to last night. I was in the shower and hear, “Mommy… Moooommy!” It is J at my locked bathroom door. “Open the door, Mommy!”

I ignore J, knowing that B is watching the boys, and enjoy my hot water and solitude. A few minutes later the door opens and J pokes his head into my bathroom. Smart boy – he can unlock doors. “Mommy! Whya takin’ a shower?”

Mommy: “J, go back to the living room and I’ll be there soon.”

J proceeds to my bathroom counter to checkout my sewing box that I had gotten down from the top of my closet to sew a hole on his Sally (from the movie Cars) pillow. “B!!” I call to get B to retrieve J. At my bellow to Daddy B, J runs to the bathroom door and closes and locks it back again. Smart boy. He knew what was coming! “B!!” I yell again and when B comes to the bathroom door J unlocks it and hops back over to the sewing box. Finally B acquires J and I can finish my shower in peace.

It is hard to remember a time when I was able to do anything by myself. Earlier, J helped me make homemade biscuits for lunch and then when C and B went out for the evening, J helped me make chocolate chip cookies. While we cooked J had an endless stream of conversation going. I learned that when J grows up, he wants to be a policeman, fire fighter, ambulance driver and telephone line repair man. May the little fella maintain his current energy level to accomplish all of these professions!

New tires, please

B and I had noticed a few weeks ago that the boys’ Jeep Hurricane was wobbling a bit on the back tires.  Knowing how the boys have loved it lots, we were hoping that it was something that we could fix or adjust.

This evening when B got home, we were out front playing.  After stopping to greet Daddy, the boys went off in their jeep again.  B noticed that the back right tire was cracked and motioned the boys back to our driveway for an inspection.  As it turns out, the tire has several holes in it and the back driver side tire is getting very thin in spots as well.  B told the boys, “You are going through tires faster than me and Mommy!”  C and J bent down to look at the tires and C’s response was, “Woah!”

I guess I know what I will be mail ordering next – tires!

J has the fascination with gloves. He tells us, “I need my gloves ’cause my cat has germs.”

This evening B was showing pictures to the boys. They happened across a picture of B and his sister Co when they were little. B was trying to explain to J that the picture was of B when he was a little boy. In the picture Co was dressed in a red shirt.

J said, “and that was me in a red shirt when I was a little girl!”

B: “Uh, no. You were never a little girl, J!”
