Truckin’

Hey folks, it’s Dad. I don’t blog much – D writes and I photograph. However, I witnessed something funny with J worthy of a post.

One night C helped me make a Lego Big Rig and fuel tanker. At the end of the night, I put it on top of our TV to keep it safe from J’s oft destructive hands in the morning. I’ll come back to that in a moment.

The next morning J came into our room and woke me, which was not unusual by itself. However, there were a few clues that he had something else planned:

Clue 1: After a minute J advised me he was going back to bed to sleep. For reference, J has too much preplanned chaos to accomplish and does not want to waste daylight sleeping; therefore he does not go back to bed after rising.

Clue 2: When he left our bedroom, he closed and locked our bedroom door behind him. Whenever J is going to do something that he knows he should not, he closes all doors between himself and the adults and hides in a corner. Hearing the door lock let me know that trouble was about to be afoot.

My curiosity was piqued about his plot so I let him march to his destination and waited a few minutes before following. I checked everyplace but his room – and could not find him. I sat quietly on the couch in the kitchen where I have a direct line of sight into the living room. Was it possible that he had actually gone back to bed? As I pondered this unlikely possibility, the answer unfolded in front of me. I saw a small shadow moving slowing in the living room, and then the footstool to a chair came into view – as J pushed it quietly in front of the TV. He climbed on the stool – and proceeded to *quietly* place C’s Lego truck BACK on top of the TV – in the precise orientation it had been in the night before. Stealthily, he moved the footstool back in place and went back to bed for a few minutes before ‘waking up’. He was so engrossed in his craftiness that he never saw me watching.

I fear I should put 24 x 7 surveillance on this boy…
